Morston Pond - 11th August 2025
Morston Pond - 11th August 2025

Double-bubble Blog this week, folks, as our pond reaches its lowest water levels we've seen during a particularly long, dry summer.

Where we'd excavated with the digger a few weeks' earlier, we already noticed the dreaded Crassula beginning to take root again. This is where frustration sets in although our team are, if nothing, not determined to 'keep on troshin' and continue with our efforts to rid the pond of the annoying invasive plant.

Crassula does not like extreme heat so burning the thing is one of our ideas to eradicate it.

What little water remains had an eerie, green quality to it, although from the many footprints we found there is still wildlife watering here. We also continue to observe dragon and damsel fly, moorhen activity and plenty of butterflies.

Although this area appears shallow, it is rather deep and incredibly boggy, which makes it particularly hard to mine the Crassula, certainly without waders in the deeper parts.

Still no sign of rain so the burning continues together with trying to excavate as much invasive plant-life from the edge of the pond as possible.
