The last day of (meteorological) Summer at Morston Pond

This week at Morston Pond saw a 'split-shift' in activities, removing the Crassula while the waters were low - with teams of community volunteers working on both Monday and Tuesday evening.

A little bit of changeable/welcome weather greeted our S.W.A.M.P. teams - light rain, blue skies and a gentle breeze helping in our efforts with the dreaded invasive pond weed. It has, of late, been possible to wade to the middle of the pond and grab handfuls of Crassula from within the tall grasses.

It's still vital to 'net' floating Crassula debris

Last week's dried Crassula (which had been drying on crates on the pond edge) was bagged up, ready for collection and removal at a later date.

One of our successful 'inventions' - the up-turned half-barrels are excellent for floating Crassula from the middle of the pond to the edge.
