S.W.A.M.P. Session - Monday 21st July 2025

Please take a few moments to also have a look through our website, where you will find coverage of our work in greater detail.
After the huge morale-boosting uplift we had last week with our wonderful helpers with their heavy machinery, (watch a short video of their work here), it was back to basics and back to hands and knees as we painstakingly cleared the areas of Crassula the plant equipment couldn't reach.

One blessing from the recent showers meant the invasive aquatic plant was slightly easier to prise from the pond's bottom, with smaller hand-tools being the most useful implements this week.

The issue with Crassula is that even the tiniest piece can take root and spread, so merely scraping the surface isn't enough for this intrusive and strong-willed plant. Left to its own devices, Crassula will take-over and dominate its environment, suffocating the majority of rivals. This is the issue we faced when S.W.A.M.P. was established, with Morston pond looking a sorry state.

Thanks to the hard work of the team and the support of Morston village and beyond, we have begun the process of eradicating the problem, as well as improving the environment for biodiversity as a whole. As a result, we have seen a notable increase in plant and creature activity, more species being noticed every week and creating a habitat for wildlife that otherwise would not have existed.
Please take a moment to visit our 'Biodiversity' pages on the website for such examples, and have a look at the following, which were photographed only yesterday!
