A bumper batch of SWAMP volunteers arrived armed with waders, wellies, gloves, hats, forks, wheelbarrows and buckets ready for another hard-working session at Morston Pond. Even Slinky the dog was prepared to get her paws dirty in the effort to rid our pond of the evasive Crassula and Parrot's Feather.
After a long Spring & Summer season at the pond, we've circled the circumference of the pond and cleared the majority of the Crassula. Parrot's Feather has continued to thrive in the deeper sections of the middle of the pond and this is where waders and long, waterproof gloves are needed for hand cultivation.
In the coming weeks, as the light of Autumn evenings grow shorter, we will attempt to deal with the stubborn growth on the edge of the pond, where the rocky soil and tangled willow roots make fork-life difficult. But don't worry, dear reader ... we have a plan!!!
