“If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” — Percy Bysshe Shelley

(end of Autumn working party - Tuesday 28th November '23)

Having postponed our planned Monday afternoon session due to the inclement weather (it was pouring with rain and you know at S.W.A.M.P. we don't like rain!) our indomitable volunteers headed out to Morston Pond on a much more agreeable day. Today's task was to begin a tidy up of the pond banks, as we'd agreed that to attempt any more removal of Parrot's Feather was improbable, impractical and illogical.

For one, the Parrot's Feather was embedded in the deepest part of the pond - way beyond safe wader height. Secondly, the soggy bottom meant being sunctioned to the foundations was a real, perilous possibility. Instead, we removed the remainder of the pre-dug crassula stored in sacks and builder's bags to our nearby 'pit' and began addressing the creeping bramble which (following discovery of a photo from 2019) we'd discovered was beginning to take over the north end of the pond. (see comparison pic 2019 to 2023 below)

Fortunately, sturdy gloves and willing bodies were in good order and ...

... a fine effort, all around, we think!
